Two week ago I started writing some comments on Isaiah 1:17 "Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow." Allow me to make a few more comments on this learning process as to what is right, or the righteous lifestyle. It's not only the dos and don'ts that is necessary to understand about what is right; we must learn why it is right, so it is a fixed principle of our heart that we believe is right and we are willing to die before we will change our beliefs about it. You have heard the old argument about convictions and preferences that was preached a few years back by David Gibbs the CLA attorney. He stressed the fact that convictions are beliefs that are not negotiable and a person will not compromise on them. They are sealed in cement in their heart to stay as many proved by being martyred at the stake.

This is the line that divides the nominal believer from the true blue saint of God. It's the why that is settled in the heart by the Word of God that has created this faith that cannot be taken away.

The why is grounded, all doubts are settled, no more questions left in the mind, the learning process is complete, the truth belongs to you and is a vital part  of your conversation.

People that are given to change their mind about their faith are likened to the double minded person. These are fence straddlers, and when the pressure is on to compromise their faith they will do so to please man or avoid persecution for the Word's sake. Nothing is really fixed in their mind as an absolute. There is something lacking in their character and experience with God, or they would become settled in what is right.
